Food Forest
We loved this opportunity to create a food forest in the front yard of this beautiful home in Sunnyvale.
What is a food forest? Several layers of food producing plants and trees who work together for the benefit of each other! Under an existing canopy of avocado, lemon and fig trees we planted a shrub layer consisting of artichoke, asparagus, rosemary, blueberries, evergreen currant, huckleberry and black lace elderberry.
Beneath that we have flowers (to attract pollinators), chives (great pest deterrent!), lavender, culinary sage, yarrow (tea + medicine) and oregano. As groundcover we have beach strawberries. We also have lots of edible flowers like pansies.
We also desiged this beautiful concrete and stone pathway. Along the fence we planted clumping bamboo (not invasive like running bamboo) to create some privacy.
